This has been going on for years like this and no one at Origin is listening intently enough to properly ascertain the situation or the problem.
Repair origin client download#
Bring up Origin and it will start verifying the entire game you moved back thinking the download is complete and then finalize. Pause the new download then completely close out Origin, Next copy the entire game file you moved over to the new drive Origin games folder. Reinstall Origin then start a fresh download of the game for about a minute. The only way to get out of this is to uninstall Origin and copy the game file to another location so you do not lose it. Once you start LOCATE GAME you cannot stop that no matter what without completely uninstalling Origin. When implementing the procedure here, Origin will come up and try and locate the game all over again resulting in crashing yet again. No amount of deleting as outlined here will prevent the crashing. The app just gets confused and can't locate anything and crashes. It especially does not work when you move games between drives for purposes of space and then try and locate. This rarely works in trying to play a game from a new drive you've installed. Once you use the application to select LOCATE GAME from your library is where the trouble starts. The problem occurs when you have a new hard drive and you are trying to locate your games on existing drives so you can play on your new drive without having to download a game all over again. It doesn't begin to address the problem and why. Let me know how you get to hear that you are having issues with your games.

Restart your PC and log back into Origin.Click on the word "AppData" at the top of your window.This will take you to a Roaming folder, which is located inside of AppData.Type in "%AppData%" (without quotes) and click OK.Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for LocalContent (do not delete this one).Type in "%ProgramData%" (without quotes) and click OK.Completely log out and close down Origin.You can clear the Origin Cache by following the steps below: Right-click the Origin folder and click Delete, then Yes. If that doesn’t work, give game streaming services like GeForce Now and Microsoft xCloud a go. Origin shows off the best of EA’s recent games, but there are still older games available for you to try if you have an older gaming PC. However, if you’re not a PC gamer, you can always try EA games on console instead. There are plenty of online gaming alternatives, however, including Steam, GOG, and Epic Games.
Repair origin client install#
If you want to play the best games, you need the best storefronts, making EA’s Origin or EA Desktop apps an essential install for new PC gamers. Your games, save files, and EA profile details will work on both platforms, letting you choose between them. However, if the newer EA Desktop won’t open or if it doesn’t work for you, removing it and switching back to Origin might be your best option in the short term.
EA plans to replace Origin with EA Desktop in the future but, for now, both apps remain available.Īt the moment, you can choose which app to use, so if Origin won’t open or isn’t working properly, upgrading to EA Desktop might work. Once it’s installed, download the latest version of Origin or EA Desktop and run the installer to reinstall it. Follow any additional on-screen instructions to remove the app.
